Rani Sultanat by Shantanu & Nikhil - Couture Autumn Winter Collection

Saturday 26 July 2014

Hey lovely readers!
Wishing you all a lovely and rocking weekend.. I also have some great plans this weekend which I would reveal shortly in my next post.

Last week Delhi played host to an iconic event which saw collaboration of designers Shantanu & Nikhil and a premium liquor brand - JOHNNIE WALKER® at an event organized at the JW Marriott, New Delhi, Aerocity where the designer duo presented their Couture AW collection, Rani Sultanat.

JOHNNIE WALKER® BLACK LABEL®, the iconic Scotch whisky renowned for its distinctive flavours, also launched a limited edition Art Deco bottle design at the magnificent fashion showcase. In a celebration of opulence, glamour, sophistication and the bold flavours associated with a golden era in history, the two brands came together, inspired by a common  muse – the fine luxury of a truly illustrious time.

The evening began with a Pre-show cocktails party where JOHNNIE WALKER® served their classic cocktails using the BLACK LABEL®.  And next we went ahead to be welcomed by an extravagant and royal set-up featuring dome-shaped sitting areas for the guests and a winding ramp around the domes.

The outfits in the collection drew inspiration from the journey of a glamorous princess towards becoming a queen by using splendour of couture and her bold crispness as the only form of expression. The inspiration was truly reflecting in the flowy gowns, embroidered lehengas, sari gowns and elaborate royal outfits.

The mood of the collection was set in the midst of a magnificent architectural palace of Istanbul somewhere in the 1930’s, where she rediscovers herself to be the one who wants to win the world with her timeless charm, intelligence & intense fashion mannerisms.

The contemporary bridal collection was strongly geared towards a cocktail couture bride and featured muted colors like greys, desert gold, white and black, with intriguing fabric cut-outs and striking warrior-like headgears. The head accessories were truly making the outfits stand out and look more glamorous.
The models were also given various hand accessories and intricately crafted clutches to complete the look of each outfit. According to Shantanu, these were launched as the brides these days wish to complete their entire look from same brand itself.

Another featuring of the event was a ticker screen where live tweets by the guests were being uploaded simultaneously.
The show ended with a post-show dinner and cocktails party.

Overall, the designs truly stood out for being unique and introducing bridal wear in a muted color palette bringing a change from the usual pinks and reds. The beautiful accessories and headgear were a treat to the eyes and the set-up - an absolute delight.
